Procedure for acceptance of cargo for transportation

When cargoes are carried by passenger aircraft in the order of their additional loading, the maximum weight and dimensions of cargoes are strictly limited. The weight of one piece of cargo carried without overloading en route must not exceed 200 kg, and 150 kg for cargo carried with overloading en route.

Cargoes are accepted for transportation under the following conditions:

  • the dimensions of the cargo must ensure its free loading (unloading) in the aircraft, its placement in the baggage and cargo compartments and fastening, including on/in the means of bundling;
  • the weight, dimensions or volume of the cargo does not exceed the norms established for a certain type of aircraft, including when it is attached to/in the means of bundling;
  • the cargo must have proper packaging that ensures its secure placement and fastening on board the aircraft and its safety during transportation, transshipment, reloading, transportation and storage;
  • the package of each cargo item shall have shipping and transport marking, and the cargo requiring special conditions of transportation shall also have special marking;
  • cargo during transportation must not create danger for passengers, crew members of the aircraft on which it is to be carried, as well as for baggage or cargo carried together with it;
  • the consignor must provide the necessary documents stipulated by the legislation of the Russian Federation, as well as the carrier's rules.

If at least one of these conditions is not met, the carrier or authorized agent has the right to refuse to accept the cargo for carriage.

The dimensions of the cargo space are limited by the dimensions of the loading hatches and baggage cargo compartments of the aircraft.

Cargo packaging shall ensure that it can be securely fastened on board the aircraft.

Cargo packaging shall have a clean surface, no sharp corners, protrusions that may cause damage or contamination of the aircraft and its equipment, as well as other cargo and baggage carried together with it.

Heavy and oversized cargo may be carried without packing upon agreement with the carrier, if it is allowed by technical conditions of its transportation.

Packing of cargo places, handed over for transportation with declared value, must be sealed by the consignor. The seals must be standardized and have clear impressions of numerical or alphabetic characters.

If the above requirements are met, the shipper contacts the mail and cargo handling agent, receives and completes the Shipper's Application Form.

The consignor shall go to the inspection area with the completed Application Form. In the presence of the consignor, the CAB inspection inspector inspects the cargo.

Upon completion of the inspection, the consignment shall be packed by the consignor, a numbered sticker shall be affixed, and the consignor shall make a note of the inspection in the Application Form.

The cargo warehouse agent, having checked the correctness of filling in the Shipper's Application Form and availability of necessary accompanying documents, proceeds to weighing and measuring of the cargo.

Note. Each cargo place shall have a shipping and transportation marking; cargo place with cargo requiring special conditions of transportation shall have a special marking.
